If a genie granted you three wishes, what three things would you choose to make your business more successful?

Most people would choose things like a high-converting offer to promote, an unlimited Facebook ads budget, or 10,000 Instagram followers.

While all of these things are nice — and may indeed result in short-term profits — they aren’t the keys that separate those who struggle to make a consistent income from those who have lasting, profitable businesses.

There are more people than you know with great products and services, healthy ad budgets, and impressive social media followings who can’t feed their families with their business profits.

The three secrets we’re going to uncover today are only “secrets” in the sense that, in the rush for money, most aspiring business owners discount their importance or overlook them all together.

Secret #1: Focus

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet were once asked what the biggest factor in their success was. Both men responded that it was their ability to focus.

These guys know a thing or two about making money.

Focus is an issue for every entrepreneur. We’re so creative, we inevitably have more ideas than time.

If you’re like me, you have enough UF’s (Unfinished Fortunes) collecting dust on your hard drive to be a millionaire many times over!

Once you learn to make focus on the foundation of your business, everything changes.

Focus on one business, one model for that business, and one traffic strategy at a time. Then expand and grow only after you’ve mastered your one thing.

The number of new hacks, software, and systems that show up in your inbox daily, promising riches — and easy ones at that — make focus easy to talk about, but much harder to master in reality.

Keep reading though, help is on the way.

Secret #2: Consistency

If you have even a little experience online, you’ve probably seen people with businesses you’re jealous of and thought, “How are they so successful? Their content’s not great, their sales letter has typos, and they look like they haven’’t left their room in mom’s basement in a month.”

So what do they have that you don’t?

The biggest answer is usually consistency.

They show up every day. They put out content with the attitude that “done is better than perfect,” and they aren’t shy about positioning themselves as experts.

They also have a habit of getting more “buy” buttons in front of people than you do.

No matter how good your offer is, if you’re working in spurts of excitement about your emerging business that last for a week and then taper off after you don’t see any immediate sales, you’re never going to get enough traction to be successful.

Consistency means developing a steadfast habit of taking some revenue-generating action for your business on a daily basis (with weekends off if you choose).

Secret #3: Mentorship

Focus and commitment are hard to master on your own. This is where mentorship comes in.

While even the best mentor can’t do it for you, they can layout the path, warn you when you’ve taken a wrong turn, and keep you accountable.

The bottom line is this. No successful business owner has gotten where they’re at alone.

One of the most common complaints from people who are struggling in their business is that they feel overwhelmed, and/or paralyzed.

The right mentor can help strip away the overwhelm and develop a plan of action that leaves you knowing exactly what you need to do each day.

Another huge advantage of having a mentor is their ability to keep you from spinning your wheels.

There’s so much junk (to put it nicely) out there on how to build a business that sadly some people do take consistent action for years and get nowhere, simply because they’re listening to the wrong people.

Picking a mentor is no small task. It means taking the time to find someone you resonate with, who’s built a business and life similar to what you’re looking for.

Once you’ve identified the right mentor, as long as you do your part, your success is virtually guaranteed.
