Some people find product creation hard, they think that in order to create something for sale they need to spend months working on a product. Now in certain circumstances this is true, I have in fact spent many months working on my latest creation Simple Traffic Solutions that launches next month. However sometimes you can create a brand new product from content you have already created in a fraction of the time, allow me to explain.

Have you ever interviewed anyone and recorded the call? Maybe it was for your own benefit, maybe it was part of a product you created. However, did you ever consider selling the interview as a stand alone product? Now I know some people may be thinking “who would buy a simple audio recording?” The simple answer is anyone who can get value from it. I have actually sold interviews I have created many many times, sometimes as stand along products, sometimes as part of a bonus and sometimes I have compiled a number of audio recordings to sell as a collection. Here’s one example of an audio I created as part of my WSO Domination program. After interviewing Alex I knew I had some good solid content, so I took the recording and created a stand alone product and launched it as a WSO. That WSO has gone on earn me about $10,000 in sales.

It doesn’t stop at audio recordings either, what about monthly content you may create as part of a membership site? Have you ever stopped to consider selling the material you create as a stand alone product? In fact this is something I have also done on numerous occasions, if you charge $10 per month for access to content you provide on a monthly basis wouldn’t it make sense to sell it as a stand alone product for $10? Heck, you could come up with a brand new product every month.

What about webinars? If you create any form of training via webinar this is something that can be sold as a stand alone product. I have actually bought a lot of WSO’s that are simply webinar recordings from other products. In fact let me show you an example.

Randy Smith recorded a webinar as part of my high ticket Partnership to Success program. I was on vacation and Randy was simply filling in and provided a webinar that taught my students The 7 Steps to Selling. When I checked out the webinar I immediately saw the value in what Randy had taught that I told him this could be sold as a stand alone product.

So Randy went away, took the recording and re-produced it in multiple formats including a transcription and wrote a simple sales page. He then added some upsells from existing products, created an affiliate program and launched the product via JV Zoo.

This is the result.

All of this took Randy about a day or two to put together once he had the graphics created. Just a couple of days to create something that can be sold over and over again.

He has already informed me this product has generated over $2000 in sales and this is just the beginning.

So have a good look at any content you have already created and see if you can create something new as I’m guessing you can. If not, remember when you record your next interview or create some more content as part of one product that it could be sold again as something else.

If I can add one last tip here it is this, when creating content try not to mention what the content is for as you never know when you need to re-purpose the material you are creating. So avoid saying thinge like “welcome to issue 2 of xxx” as you would have to edit the content at a later date.

I’d also advise checking out Simple Selling Skills as it will give you an idea of how this is done.

As always your comments are welcome.

Cheers for the mention John 🙂

I’m only glad the Partnership Members weren’t unhappy about me releasing this considering how much they had to pay to access these skills!

Then again – it was you who, after listening to it and loving it, insisted we should share the information with as many people as possible.

John the webinar Randy did that day was awesome. I remember that day I was thinking that the training Randy provided should be a stand alone product.

I’m so happy he did that and the product has become so successfull. Keep up the good work Randy and I would recomend any of your products because you always provide so much value.

      Hi John

Totally agree, there’s so many things we can do with content we’ve created in the past.

Just reading through your post here sprung some products of my own to mind that I need to take a look at and see if I can get them out there as a stand alone product.

Nice tip on – when creating content try not to mention what the content is for as you never know when you need to re-purpose the material.

Randy’s Webinar on “Simple Selling Secrets” was a great recording and one that a lot of people will benefit from.

      Hi John

It’s amazing what can actually spark off the idea for a product. My first product was actually a consultation with you that I recorded and will put out as a product (as it was so full of content) .. Well it comes out Thursday .. so I’m very excited 🙂

My real issue comes with making the right product that people are going to want.. so I guess that research is the key here 🙂

The thing you mentioned with Randy sounds brilliant – I was going to promote it using face book, but thought it would be better promoting it to my new list instead!!

This was a great post John

      Many thanks for the inspiration.

      Cheers Carl

      Great post John,

It’s amazing how many products you can create very quickly. Audio and video’s are easy to create but have a much higher perceived value.

Thanks for the reminder to create more products.

      Cheers

It once took me 15 minutes to knock up a product.

All I did was switched on Camtasia and basically walked through a process on how to do something.

Till this day, that 15 minutes of work now sells for 47 bucks a pop… Easy peasy 🙂

      Great post John.

This is a great reminder that a product isn’t just an e-book and that the format of the product isn’t as important as the content.

My first product was an interview product. It’s the perfect product when you’re not the expert. That one product ultimately led to creating another “compilation” product that generated over $60,000 in 7 days. And neither product required my expertise or knowledge on the subject whatsoever.

A tip… an “interview” doesn’t have to be an audio. If you’re not comfortable talking to people or don’t feel you have the voice for audio, you can send someone questions and compile them into a PDF. A better option is to send many experts the same question and compile them.

The above method is awesome, because you now have a built-in traffic method from those you interviewed! If you have 5 or 6 experts who have mailing lists, you could have thousands of targeted traffic hitting your site in days 🙂

Maybe you’ve written several articles on the same subject. Take a dozen of them and compile a short report. Turn the titles into a Table of Contents. Use the report as a lead-generator or if the content is really useful, sell it at a low price point to get buyers onto your list. Or…

…brand it with links to your lead-gen page or affiliate product and give the report away with “free giveaway rights” so that others can give it away too. This will create viral free traffic for you.

      Hi John,

That is a great heads-up for people who get the IM equivalent of writers’ block and you’ve demonstrated by example year after year that you can come up with quality products from what you’ve probably already got lying about or could come up with pretty quick.

      Thanks for the awesome content.

      Hi John,

Like you say, creating a product is easy, but selling and launching it is where I struggle.

Perhaps I will just need to concentrate on traffic generation more and be a bit more pushy in the way I approach getting people to promote.

      Hi John

spot on I have created many products from a simple ebook I wrote over 2 years ago. I sold the book then sold a lot of the chapters as seperat books in PDF format. I reformatted these chapters and sold these plans on Kindle.

I gave a leaked chapter away to build a list and also sold some of this stuff on eBay.

I still haven’t run out of source material.

      cheers
      Rob

      Hi John,
it’s amazing where you can get inspiration from. I get a lot of mine whilst sitting at the kitchen table(no joke!). Just interacting with people on forums helps get the creative juices flowing also. Great post.

      Hi John,

Until I got into your coaching program Partnership to Success, I never realized the full potential of product creation and what you could create and how easy it could be if you just take the time to learn how.

This was an exellent post for anyone thinking of creating their own products.

      Hey John,

I think this is literally the closest thing there is to making money as fast as possible with Internet Marketing.

      1. Create an interview (1 hour)
      2. Transcribe if needed (outsource this as urgent, same day return)
      3. Post as WSO

Awesome article John and great job on monetizing an audio interview with AJ.

It looks like whatever you guys touch becomes golden lately! 😉

      Hello John,

Many marketers who struggle to create products but already have their own products can create some new packages of products from their existing products using a variety of methods:

-Turning their ebooks into audio format, and selling this.
-Selling the resell rights of your existing product
-Selling Bundle products (5 of your existing products in one package)
-Selling physical versions of their digital product (dvd shipment course).
-Turning your content into a membership site.

Once you create one product then making additional future products using the ‘first product’ becomes easier, as you can use this first product as a template for your future products.

Asking for help from other marketers also goes a long way aslong as you provide value back to them too.

      Hi John,

You are totally right in mentioning that some people feel they have to spend a long time in creating a product.

I know because I’m one of those people. Instead of just getting my idea out there I felt because I hadn’t spent long enough on it, people wouldn’t perceive it as valuable.

With the tips you mention here I’ll rethink my idea.

      Regards,
      Dean.
