I Have Reached 5,000 Friends – Now What?

5000 friends

First of all let me ask you a question:

Do you really have 5,000 friends?

Or do you have 5,000 people who are a mix of friends, family, acquaintances, business colleagues, and business contacts?

Another question – are you using your Facebook profile to share business offers? You do know that is against Facebook’s terms of service?

So you’ve reached 5,000 friends and are not sure what to do next.

You could simply do nothing and allow Mr 5,001 to become a follower as opposed to a friend.  That means he will still see your updates.

Or you could make the smart move of creating a business page if you haven’t already done so – there is a video here that will help you do that if you need it.

Or if you have a page already – let me guess does it have a 100 likes, maybe a few more, and you just don’t know where to start in getting people to like your page and get accustomed to following you there rather than on your profile?

Keep up to date with John on his BUSINESS PAGE – don’t forget to click LIKE while you are there

I have always recommended that people should use their Facebook Page in conjunction with their profile for maximum results – let me explain what I mean by that…

Watch this video for how I recommend using your Facebook profile in conjunction with your page…

So the smart move when you reach 5,000 ‘friends’ on Facebook is to create a page or to start to use it if you already have one.

In fact the smart move, if you want to do any business on Facebook, is to create a business page regardless of how many friends you have.

The video above on how to use your profile in conjunction with your page has given you some starting points to get your page going so let’s recap on what you need to do…..

  • Step 1 - Create (or start to use) your business page
  • Step 2 – Announce on your profile that you will be sharing your latest business news and information on your business page from now on, and invite everyone to go and like your page – you could even offer a freebie behind a ‘like gate’ if you wish. (More on that in later articles)
  • Step 3 – Start to populate your page with your news, business information and offers, because unlike your profile this is the place where you can freely promote your business offers.
  • Step 4 – Share some of those posts on your profile.
  • Step 5 – Get More Likes.

Haha – now that last statement is sometimes easier said than done – right?

Stay tuned for the next in this series where I will show you different methods of getting more likes on your page and why you really need to do that.

You make a very good point about followers vs. friends. The relationship in internet marketing must be one of the main keys for your business.

Although I have not mastered the juggling of the various social media sites, I know they all need to be a part of the circle of my business.

And I love John’s Simple Traffic Solutions ebook. It is a great resource for traffic.

      Hi Leslie

It can be a bit of a juggling act managing and maintaining all your social sites, but worth it in the visibility you get for your business

      Thanks for your comment

    Hi Frank

    Thanks for your comment.
Glad to give you the inspiration to revive your page – there are too many people out there risking losing their profile by using it for business. It does happen more than you realise.

    Hi Sue,
I have a business page and I not only need more likes, but I also need to decide what direction I want to take it in. I originally planned to direct traffic toward my eBay store where I sell my toys, but my business model is shifting a bit and I’m kind of lost with what I want to do with it now. I think once I decide that I will be ready to build my “Likes” up. Right now, it all just feels kind of chaotic.

Hey George my friend – thanks for stopping by.
I can help you with that!
Feeling that way is common so a more general page might be best
for you to encompass multiple streams of your business?
We can chat about it :)

    Hi Sue,

although I have set up a business page, I am not using it the right way in the moment. This is mainly due to the fact that this page has just a couple of likes and I am connected with those people through other channels anyway. However, I think I need to improve on how I am using my business page, as it is a bit like using an autoresponder the first time. You need to take care of it already from the first subscriber.
Looking forward to your next post on how to get more like to the business page.

    Hi Torsten

    Thanks for stopping by.
Many people simply don’t know where to start with their pages
and you do need to dedicate some time to it regularly for it to grow
    and produce results for you.

But it’s worth it – I think so anyway!

Hi Sue, this has helped me a lot as recently facebook had a glitch were you couldn’t create any pages at all. With regards to Torsten comment. He can also sign up tweetfeeder which automatically posts your blog post to your facebook page. :)

The post has been brilliant. I did enjoy it. Thanks again Sue.
